Tonight I got a chance to check out a party hosted by BizBash, the leading trade source for the event industry, held at a new venue by the Distillery District, the Airship 37.
The venue consisted of two spaces, separated by the entrance and a coat check. The first space was a warehouse space drenched in white. The bar served as the focal point in the room, decorated with ornate floral sculptures.
The white backdrop was lit up and projected on in various spots. The projection is a great look.
There were some beautiful floral designs from Jackie O at the event.
Brought along my friend Velsie Mak to the event to shmooze. She’s an up and coming singer if ever you need some sweet tunes at your next event/wedding =)
We were holding these fun cocktails made with the new Molson Canadian 67. I had my reservations about a cocktail made with beer but it was actually pretty good!
There were four appetizer stations set up around the space. This and the next picture were some items from a caterer called Toben. Really tasty!
These were also by Toben, served on a really interest fork.
These were the most interesting food item at the event, done by Berkeley Events, the caterer from the Berkeley Church. A sample of haddock and chips was served on a deep fryer basket, then set upon a beautiful display of orchirds under an upside down vase. The presentation was fabulous but it took a really long time to get prepared and the portion was again small. Great concept though!
The only thing I would have did differently if I ran the event would be to have the appetizers be passed instead of in stations. The stations formed line ups and jams around the room. That or up the portion size, so that I got something substantial for waiting in line.
There were some interesting elements I took from it and I got to try some new caterers. It’s nice to see companies taking risks and trying something new. Thanks BizBash for a fun night =)
