Behind the scenes on CP24

By Rebecca

Last weekend I had the chance to go on TV with CP24′s AutoShop segment to talk about Wedding Day Transportation with Ann Rohmer. Ann was filling in for Nneka Elliott who was off getting married actually! I was a bit nervous at first but it was such a fun experience when it was all said and done. Here is a look at the behind the scenes on my segment at CP24! On a side note, it’s so weird to hear and see yourself speak!

I’ve arrived! It’s starting to get real right about now.

Annie (from iBfrank.com) and Ming (from Puzzle Creations) did a great job on my makeup and hair but I got a little last minute touch up done by their in-house makeup artist. Even a little bit of dewy glow will look oily on camera.

And just like that, we start talking about wedding day transportation! They asked me to wear solid, bright colours since we sit on those white sofas. Solid, bright colours are pretty much my every day wardrobe so that wasn’t too difficult at all. I provided them my notes and photos in advance, and Ann was able to talk us through everything. She told me to put away my notes and just have a conversation with her. Scary! Good thing I studied my notes well :)

It was a live segment, so I made sure to smile lots and be as informative as possible. It went by so quickly!

Ann was so sweet and easy to talk to. It’s easy to see why she’s the host of so many of CP24′s awesome talk shows. The crew at CP24 was great to work with too. Thanks again to CP24 for having me!

When it comes to wedding day transportation ideas, it’s like finding inspiration for any other part of your wedding. It’s about finding the right fit based on your budget and style, and knowing your options! Your wedding planner is a great resource for helping you find the right transportation mode for you.

Wedding day transportation on CP24 – Go classy

Wedding Day Transportation - Limousine

Limousines are the most common and practical options for getting your bridal party around on your wedding day. The options range from a simple town car for just the bride and groom, or bigger vehicles like stretch SUV limousines that sit everyone in the bridal party. I booked my own limousine from A Celebrity Limousines.

Wedding Day Transportation - Exotic rentals

Rent an exotic car for the day (the boys will love it!). Photo from GTA Exotics.

Wedding Day Transportation - Horse and Carriage

Another classy way to ride around town is on a horse and carriage. It’s not too common for downtown Toronto but it would be great for making a grand entrance to an outdoor wedding ceremony!

Wedding day transportation on CP24 – Go vintage

Wedding Day Transportation - Vintage TTC Street car

Charter a downtown Toronto tour for your wedding guests in this vintage TTC Streetcar. These run on actual street car tracks so the tours would have to run on regular TTC routes.

Wedding Day Transportation - Rolls Royce

When thinking of vintage options, you can also consider luxury vintage options with a Rolls Royce, Bentley or Lincoln. Photo from Rolls Choice Livery.

Wedding day transportation on CP24 – Go Fun

Wedding Day Transportation - Trolley

Charter a sight seeing trolley with City Sightseeing Toronto. for the day if you want a fun way for guests to see the city. They are both cozy and comfortable, with huge windows for taking photos around town.

Wedding Day Transportation - Double Decker bus

Another fun option from City Sightseeing Toronto is booking a London double decker bus with an open rooftop. Great for if you have a gap in between your ceremony and reception to give your guests a tour of your favourite spots around Toronto.

Dining with Chef Daniel Boulud at the Four Seasons

By Rebecca

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of being invited to an intimate dinner at the Four Seasons’ Cafe Boulud. It was an honour to dine with some of the city’s finest event planners. Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Boulud was the reason for the dinner since he was in town, and, to our delight, he made an appearance at our table. It was a wonderful evening with fantastic company. How often do you get to say you had an experience like this? Thank you to Marc and Lina from the Four Seasons for being such amazing hosts!

Our intimate spot for our dinner at the Four Seasons Toronto – Cafe Boulud. The cafe is full of original artwork for great conversations and very contemporary furniture to complement the rest of the hotel.

It was a fabulous tasting! My mouth is watering again thinking about it.

We took a lovely photo in the kitchen with the one and only Chef Daniel Boulud. I can’t believe he stretched out on to the table! I guess you have to impress the lovely ladies ;)

I had to take a photo with him! What an honour.

What a night! Delectable food, amazing company, stellar venue. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening!

A wedding planner’s wedding

By Rebecca

I kick off this week’s posts with video and photos from a special wedding.. my own! It’s always something special when it is a wedding planner’s wedding, so I thought I would share a few of my insights and thoughts behind the day, while sharing with you some of the photos and video highlights too.

Rebecca + Ken // WEDDING TRAILER from Heart Visuals on Vimeo.

As both a wedding planner and the bride, it was such a unique experience and I had a few thoughts to share as I look back. For those of my friends who were a part of the celebration, this is a “director’s cut” of sorts too.

As a bride-to-be, you get so many expectations piled on top of you. Parents expect to host a great party for their invited guests. Friends come with their own ideas and preconceived notions from every other wedding they have attended.

As a wedding planner and a bride-to-be, I set out to not only host a great wedding celebration but also to show my friends, family and onlookers that you don’t have to abide by all the traditions that are expected of you when creating your dream day.

We both weren’t big cake people, so we opted not to have a fancy cake and instead offered guests a really tasty dessert as part of their meal (and it was tasty!!).

We opted for a nontraditional seating layout to facilitate better conversation instead of being seated around a dance floor in circular tables. Arcadian Loft accommodated this beautifully with its long event space.

As you may know, I designed my own sapphire engagement ring because I didn’t feel like a diamond ring reflected my personality.

We chose each song of the song list with our band, so there was nothing that we wouldn’t dance to ourselves.

When we planned our day, we really stripped down traditions and expectations. If we didn’t care for it or if it didn’t mean anything special to us, we didn’t include it. We focused on what mattered most to us and that’s how wedding planning should be done. We chose venues that made for gorgeous backdrops to our photos and video, and we wanted to create an intimate dinner party feel for the evening. The night was definitely intimate, and we had such a blast.

The only rules in wedding planning are to have fun and make it about you! You only do it once so make the most of it.

Now, I’ll let the photos do the talking! :)

Rebecca Chan, Wedding Planner, featured in Work Style Magazine

By Rebecca

It’s been a busy month of May with lots of 2013/2014 inquiries, two weddings to coordinate and my own wedding in the mix too. It was a nice treat to receive this in the mail – the Work Style Magazine, where I was recently featured in an article talking about my job as a wedding planner. The magazine is about the changing world of work around the world, and this article focused on the ‘unusual’ job of being a wedding planner. It’s not that unusual!
