Great article, Rebecca!
I’m a big sushi-lover as well and you’re right — there are definitely ways to make the experience more enjoyable, but there are also other little things that detract from the whole experience as well. I’ve been to a number of weddings where sushi has been well-served and well-presented for guests.
I find that the key to success is for the sushi chef to prepare and plate the sushi at his own food station. Not only do guests get to see the chef’s creative work process (plus, the anticipation of waiting to finally eat the finished product is killer!), the chef also has control over the portion that is plated, the presentation of his plating, and the rate at which sushi is available. There’s just something so simple, yet elegant about a few bites of sushi on a proper plate, presented by the chef himself.
Additionally, soya sauce was served and rationed by an assistant at the station (it’s not enjoyable to have your sushi swimming in too much soya sauce either!). Additional condiments (ie. wasabi and ginger) were also available at the side for guests to enjoy. Both chopsticks and forks were available near the condiments for guests to use as well.
Now I’m craving sushi too!
Thanks Chris! It’s nice to know someone reads this =D
I totally agree that there needs to be enough service to make having sushi enjoyable at an event. Sushi at food stations like how you described sounds great!
Well said. There are some who are truly disappointed with their event education in my personal experience but when all is said and done, it’s the open doors and opportunities for real life experience that event education is accomplishing. As you have said “a means to an end” just a start.
There are those who have gone over and beyond to establish their name in the industry and those who have not gained anything more than before they pursued their education in events. What differs a successful event professional and another enthusiast, is their passion and contributions to the industry.
Talk soon. Cheers,
Alex Cheng.
Love it — thanks so much for contributing! 🙂
This post was exactly what I needed to read. Thank you so much for your advice.
I’ve had the pleasure of shooting Eglinton Grand twice in the past – it is a beautiful venue albeit darker than what most photographers would like, but I think it adds to the ambiance. There’s another theatre nearby that also does weddings – The Capitol Event Theatre that’s similar but out of the two, Eglinton Grand is the winner in my opinion having shot at both venues!
Malaparte looks awesome though, hope I get to shoot there one day!
Great blog, I was hooked till the end. BEAUTIFUL RING. Which also answers my question (where is her ring) when we bumped into each other the other day 😉 I really love everything about this process. I love that you decided you didn’t need to go with staus quo, I love that it was fair trade. I love the attention to detail you got for FTJco. Just awesome.
Aww thanks so much Annette!! You are too sweet! I am so happy about the whole process and the final product. I’ll be sure to show you next time!
Gorgeous ring =). Now it make me wonder how he propose without one hehe =). Happy for you.
Rebecca, thanks so much for showcasing our work! Hope you had an amazing time at the show 🙂
Love your article very detailed and gave me a sense that I was there!
Wow, this looks amazing. Wish I was there to shoot some of this!
You are amazing.
That looks super exciting!!
Up 8% from last year??? That’s crazy.
I’m personally a Toronto wedding photographer and I’ve definitely noticed the disparity between for example, a photographer in Whitby. But to be honest, the quality of photography in the city is also MUCH higher compared to those from outside the city!
Lovely wedding Rebecca. The Hunt is one of my favourite venues. Beautiful grounds, overlooking the lake.
Thank you Christine!
Great tips! We just filmed a beautiful outdoor tent wedding this past weekend. It was gorgeous, but some bug spray would’ve been really nice!
Thank you! Great work by the way, glad to connect.
Interesting idea, organising a wedding is a massive project and I can imagine that they are there to lessen the stress if anything!
This is absolutely beautiful! Well done, I hope that I get to work with you one day 🙂 Keep up the great work.
Aw, thanks Samantha!
So cute I love the cornfield photo 🙂
Definitely! A Brit and A Blond did a great job on the shoot.
Hey, you know we actually just read this! Nice article.
Absolutely Stunning!!!!

Where was this Rolls Royce from?
Hi Sasha, the Rolls Royce here was from Rolls Choice Livery.
Where is this “Eagles Nest Golf Club” located? Also, I recognize him from Dragon’s Den, what business was he pitching? Looks like an awesome wedding!
Derek, thanks for the comment! Eagles Nest is located in Maple, Ontario. And you’re right. The groom was on Dragon’s Den for pitching the “Rise Luggage” system.
LOVES IT!!!!
Simply amazing!!! Great work Rebecca.
Wow! Beautiful wedding 🙂 It’s one thing to have your work featured and another to have your own wedding featured! Would have liked to have seen your cheongsum and your sparkly dress!
Great post for those tent/outdoor weddings this coming summer.
One small tip to add is to advise the guests to bring an extra pair of shoes suitable for walking on grass.

What a lovely winter wedding! Those shoes are gorgeous, and got to love the Lego cufflinks! 😀
Thanks for the locations and sharing them.
Langdon Hall is a magical place. Every detail is well-thought out, and the staff are so friendly. With each visit (and each drive up the driveway), I’m even more impressed! It looks like you had a great time!
Hi Rebecca, thanks for including Boracay Island in your post. That was an amazing review, which I know couples who read your blog will encourage to include the Island in their honeymoon destination list.
Nice article and exciting options! I can’t imagine better place than Bali for honeymoon.
Just watched the segment and everything is just gorgeous, Rebecca. The lemons and sunnies in the table decor are my favourite – so fresh!
P.S. You styled the French Lilac skirt perfectly, love it!
This is great, applicable to vendors across the industry, I’d say!
Adorable. And those cupcakes are THE cutest!!!
I just want to say: this is a very good round-up article! Well done 🙂
Very nice article informative content thanks we liked it.
I’ve never considered this to be an easy-to-go job. As far as I can see, it requires not only time and commitment, but also an extraordinary amount of flexibility and approachability to people. That’s far from being a job for everyone. Same goes with the other things strictly tied to weddings and marriage in general. Professional photo sessions, like those on http://www.ajphotographer.ca/ are also no laughing matter.
Yeah, I agree that starting as a photographer requires some preparation. Luckily, there are a lot of photo studios that can make a great inspiration for the beginners. I can recommend for instance http://www.ajphotographer.ca/ as one of those examples. 😉
Wow, thank you, thank you for sharing this information. Makes me feel hopeful!
This is great Rebecca, Congrats on the good show!
Great tips. I’m really enjoying this behind the business series.
Thanks for sharing this, it´s wonderful!
As a wedding photographer, I love your post and beautiful pics.
Great article. CNE also has lots of great locations for photography. Best wishes, Richard Emmanuel Studios
Amazing venue for garden wedding. Highly recommend their food, better than any other wedding I’ve ever attended and better than most fine dining restaurants. The staff are so accommodated and lots of attention paid to details. Great service. The garden view is astonishing. Best wedding venue for around 100 people.
Such a nice CNY party post. Thank you for sharing
